My name is Melinda Johnson and I suffered with foot pain for many years. I went to see a podiatrist and after an examination, I was told that I had heel spur syndrome. I followed the recommendations of my doctor by doing at home treatments along with physical therapy. I was amazed at how much these treatments helped my foot pain. Living with pain can have a big impact on your life and that's why I started this blog. Two Tips To Help You Protect Your Eyesight

For many people, maintaining excellent health is at the top of their list of priorities.  They may exercise each day, and watch what they eat in hopes of keeping themselves as fit and healthy as possible.  However, the eye, one of the most important parts of the entire body, is often overlooked.  With diseases such as macular degeneration affecting more than 10 million Americans, it's vital that you do everything in your power to keep your eyes as healthy as possible.  Use this information to learn more about what you can do to protect your eyesight for as long as possible.

Adhere to the 20-20-20 Rule

The advent of computers and the digital age have made it completely normal to stare at a flashing screen for hours at a time.  However, this may not be good news for your eyes because it could be causing undue strain.  

A good way to combat this problem is to adhere to the 20-20-20 rule.  The rule is fairly straightforward: Every 20 minutes, take your eyes off of the computer screen and look at objects that are 20 feet away for 20 seconds.  This gives the eyes a break, and gives you a chance to blink so that your eyes can become rehydrated.  The brightness of the computer screen sometimes results in fewer blinks, which could dry the eyes out and cause redness.  Following the 20-20-20 rule helps to break up the natural trend toward keeping your eyes trained on the monitor so you can help protect your vision.

Stop Smoking

Another step you can take in your quest to keep your eyes healthy is to stop smoking.  Although you may be familiar with the effects that smoking has on the body, you may not be as acquainted with how smoking may be affecting your eyes.

For example, people who smoke almost double their chances of developing cataracts. In addition, if you smoke, you essentially triple your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration.  This disease causes blind spots that make it difficult for you to see.

The good news is that since smoking is completely voluntary, you can make the decision to stop so you can possibly keep these eye issues at bay.
