Loving My Pain Free Life

My name is Melinda Johnson and I suffered with foot pain for many years. I went to see a podiatrist and after an examination, I was told that I had heel spur syndrome. I followed the recommendations of my doctor by doing at home treatments along with physical therapy. I was amazed at how much these treatments helped my foot pain. Living with pain can have a big impact on your life and that's why I started this blog. My foot pain kept me from doing many things that I enjoy and I want to help others who are going through the same situation. As you browse through my blog, you'll learn about home treatments, medical procedures and new advancements in medicine that can help reduce pain. It is my hope that by writing this blog, you can live pain free too.

3 Attributes To Look For In A Primary Care Provider For Your Elderly Parent

Claire Roberts

When you were a child, your parents were in charge of finding you the appropriate medical care, but as your parents reach a certain age, the tables turn, and you can be left searching for the proper doctors and care providers. If you are faced with the task of finding a primary care provider for your elderly parent, it can seem a little overwhelming because this provider has to be a good fit for both of you even though you may not live in the same house. Here is a short list of attributes you should be looking for in a primary care provider for your elderly parent.

The care provider is familiar with geriatric care.

Believe it or not, not every physician is completely familiar with the health needs of the older population. While most primary care physicians will treat elderly individuals, it is much better to find a provider who specializes in geriatric care. There are a lot of health issues that can come along with being a senior adult, from the threats of certain illnesses and diseases to changes in mental capacity. A doctor who is highly familiar with geriatric care will be more understanding of specific health concerns and health situations.

The care provider is capable of offering speedy appointments.

If you are in direct charge of getting your loved one to their doctor's appointments even though you do not live with them, it can make things a little more difficult where scheduling appointments are concerned. You may not know immediately that your parent needs to see a doctor, which means you will need a care provider who can get your parent in rather quickly to be seen when you do call for an appointment and not make you wait for days just to get in to see someone.

The care provider is in close proximity to your parent's home.

As the primary caretaker of your aging parent, you will likely spend a lot of time traveling back and forth to their home, especially if they live alone. You definitely do not want doctor's visits to mean even more traveling time for you, and more time out of your day sitting in traffic. Look for a primary care provider who is in close proximity to your parent's home, so it is never a burden to get them to the office for a visit on time and you can do so without driving a long way to get there.
