About Me
Loving My Pain Free Life

My name is Melinda Johnson and I suffered with foot pain for many years. I went to see a podiatrist and after an examination, I was told that I had heel spur syndrome. I followed the recommendations of my doctor by doing at home treatments along with physical therapy. I was amazed at how much these treatments helped my foot pain. Living with pain can have a big impact on your life and that's why I started this blog. My foot pain kept me from doing many things that I enjoy and I want to help others who are going through the same situation. As you browse through my blog, you'll learn about home treatments, medical procedures and new advancements in medicine that can help reduce pain. It is my hope that by writing this blog, you can live pain free too.

What You Must Know When Choosing A Holistic Dentist

Claire Roberts

Traditionally, the focus of dentistry was on treating the teeth alone. Some dentists would work with other medical professionals who would perform coordinated treatments, such as a nutritionist and a dentist working with a diabetic patient to reduce the symptoms of diabetes. However, there has been a growing number of dentists who have treated the teeth and gums as only part of the quest for dental health and better overall health.

Treating The Whole Body

Holistic dentists treat the rest of the body by providing advice on diet, lifestyle and emotional health. Your oral decay may be the result of snacking too often between meals. While snacking occasionally is acceptable, snacking on certain foods can increase the odds that you will suffer from oral decay. Inform your dentist of what you snack on so that he or she can identify which foods might be contributing to your oral decay. Also, talk to your dentist about how depression or stress might be affecting  your eating habits.

Deciding Between Traditional And Alternative Treatments

When working with a holistic dentist, you will want to inquire about the different methods that the dentist uses so that you can determine whether these techniques are right for you. For example, rather than using fluoride, your dentist might use herbs. Decide whether you are concerned about the use of fluoride before deciding on a treatment regimen that you may not agree to. Some holistic dentists use traditional dentistry practices while supplementing them with other treatments, such as massage therapy.

Verifying The Science Behind The Treatments

Ask your dentist to explain the scientific research that has been conducted to verify that the methods that the dentist utilizes actually work. Ask your dentist to explain in detail the specific procedures and the medications that are used, preferably with a pamphlet, email or a printed document. Then, take the information to another dentist to verify whether the information is credible.

Factoring In the Environmental Impact

Consider whether environmental concerns should be factored into whether you will choose an alternative treatment option. For example, some dentists have been phasing out mercury to reduce the impact that mercury has on the environment. A few countries have considered banning mercury fillings. Each of these factors should be taken into consideration when choosing whether you'd rather choose a traditional or holistic dentist. Then, you will have more control over your health by making informed decisions and using all of the medical tools available to you.
