Improving Your Smile With Natural Coffee Stain Removal Methods

Claire Roberts

If you noticed your teeth are not as bright as they had appeared in the past and you are a regular coffee-drinker, you are most likely suffering from staining left behind by your daily beverage. Many find that acidic beverages like coffee, tea, and wine can do a number with discoloration to the teeth over time. Here are some natural methods you can use to help alleviate the staining you are experiencing in an attempt to enhance your teeth's appearance so you can smile wide instead of trying to hide your teeth from the public.

Use Different Fruits To Reduce Staining

There are a few fruits in the grocery store you can pick up to try helping in the removal of surface stains on the teeth. Strawberries are known to remove stains when the interior portion is rubbed against the teeth. Take a bite out of a strawberry and use the pulpy middle portion as a stain eraser. Simply rub it over discolored areas for a few minutes. Repeat this process as often as desired to reduce the appearance of stains over time. A banana or orange peel may also be helpful in taking away discoloration from teeth. The interior portion of each of these fruits can be rubbed directly on stained teeth to help fade stains naturally.

Try Using A Homemade Toothpaste

While there are commercial products on the market that aid in whitening teeth, you may want to take a more natural approach and make a whitening toothpaste from ingredients you already have on hand. Grab a small bowl and sprinkle some baking soda inside to use for your homemade toothpaste. Add a bit of water and mix well. You want the substance to resemble the consistency of a standard toothpaste. If it is too soupy, add more baking soda. Alternately, if it is too dry, add more water. Add a dab to your toothbrush and use it to clean your teeth. This toothpaste will instantly reduce the staining present. Because of its strength, limit this procedure to once a week for about a minute for each brushing. Using baking soda on the teeth too often can lead to the elimination of enamel on the teeth.

Make Some Switches When Drinking Beverages

You always have the option in switching your beverage choice to one that is not known to stain. Water, seltzer, or other clear liquids will not discolor the teeth after consumption. If you cannot give up your instant boost of energy, coffee can be consumed in a different manner. Consider using a straw when drinking coffee so the liquid is ingested quickly without having the chance to rest on your teeth. It is also a good idea to follow a cup of coffee with a drink of water to wash away any remnants left on the surface of your teeth.
