My name is Melinda Johnson and I suffered with foot pain for many years. I went to see a podiatrist and after an examination, I was told that I had heel spur syndrome. I followed the recommendations of my doctor by doing at home treatments along with physical therapy. I was amazed at how much these treatments helped my foot pain. Living with pain can have a big impact on your life and that's why I started this blog. My foot pain kept me from doing many things that I enjoy and I want to help others who are going through the same situation. As you browse through my blog, you'll learn about home treatments, medical procedures and new advancements in medicine that can help reduce pain. It is my hope that by writing this blog, you can live pain free too.

Women's Health Services That All Adult Women Should Receive

Claire Roberts

All humans have basic healthcare needs. But here are some of the needs that vary between women and men, simply because the two sexes have different anatomy. If you are an adult woman, then here are some of the health services you need to receive on a regular basis in order to stay in good health.

Pelvic Exam

A basic pelvic exam involves your doctor examining the internal and external areas of your pelvic organs. They will generally use a speculum to see your cervix and the inner walls of your vagina. They will also feel the shape and position of your uterus. Pelvic exams can feel a little uncomfortable, but they are an important diagnostic tool. They are able to alert your doctor to a wide variety of issues, such as STDs and uterine fibroids. Depending on your age and risk factors, you may need a pelvic exam anywhere from every one to three years.

Pap Smear

A Pap smear is a specific test for cervical cancer. Your doctor will collect a sample of cervical cells, which will be examined under a microscope for abnormalities. A Pap smear can indicate whether you have cervical cancer long before you show obvious symptoms. The earlier cancer is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat — so Pap smears every few years are a vital component of women's healthcare.

Breast Exams

Breast cancer does occur in men, but it is far more common in women. You need to be doing self-exams on a regular basis, but you will also want to see your doctor for a professional breast exam every year or so. Your doctor will feel around your breasts and into your armpit to see if there are any worrisome bumps. If they do discover a bump, then they are able to biopsy it to determine whether you have cancer.

Once you reach the age of 40, your doctor will likely recommend a mammogram in addition to your regular breast exam. This is an imaging technique that allows the doctor to actually see your internal breast tissue and assess it for cancer more thoroughly.

Women have some different health care needs than men do. If you are a woman, then you need to make sure you schedule regular doctor's visits for pelvic exams, Pap smears, and breast exams. Doing so could prevent you from developing a more serious illness in the future.
